6 Month Baby Food Chart for Pakistan (with Urdu Names)
Starting solids is exciting, but most parents in Pakistan ask the same questions: what should my 6-month-old eat, how much, and when? This 6 month baby food chart gives you a simple week-by-week plan, a sample daily routine and a list of first foods with their Urdu names, so it's easy to follow with everyday foods from a Pakistani kitchen.
Every baby is different. Start solids when your baby shows signs of readiness (see 5 signs your baby is ready) and check with your pediatrician, especially if your baby was born early or has allergies.
The basics at 6 months
- Milk still comes first. Breast milk or formula is your baby's main food until 12 months. Solids are for learning tastes and textures, and for adding iron and other nutrients.
- Start with 1 meal a day, a few spoonfuls, at a time when your baby is happy and not too tired. Over the next weeks build up to 2 meals, and gradually move towards 3 meals a day by around 7–9 months.
- Smooth first, then thicker. Begin with smooth or well-mashed food, then move to mashed food with soft lumps and soft finger foods as soon as your baby can manage.
- No salt, no sugar, no honey. Don't add salt or sugar to your baby's food, and don't give honey before 12 months.
- Iron matters. From 6 months babies need iron from food: lentils (daal), eggs, chicken, and iron-containing cereals help.
- Stay with your baby while they eat, sitting upright, to make sure they swallow safely.
6 month baby food chart: week by week
| Week | Meals a day | What to offer | Texture |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 1 | Single smooth foods: baby cereal, mashed banana, stewed apple, carrot or pumpkin purée | Very smooth |
| Week 2 | 1 | Add potato, sweet potato, pear, papaya; mix vegetables with a little baby cereal | Smooth |
| Week 3 | 1–2 | Add soft-cooked moong daal, rice khichri (no salt), plain yoghurt (dahi) | Thicker, mashed |
| Week 4 | 2 | Add well-cooked egg, soft chicken mashed into rice or daal; keep offering fruits and vegetables | Mashed with soft lumps |
Introduce one new food every 2–3 days so you can spot anything that doesn't agree with your baby. It's normal for a baby to refuse a food at first. It can take 10 or more tries before they accept it, so keep offering.

Foods to avoid before 12 months
- Honey (shehad), even in small amounts.
- Added salt and sugar, including salty snacks, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks or juice.
- Cow's milk as a drink. It can be used in cooking, but your baby's drink should be breast milk or formula.
- Whole nuts and hard foods that can cause choking. Offer nuts only finely ground or as smooth nut butter.
- Tea (chai) and other caffeinated drinks.
Where baby cereal fits in
A good baby cereal makes the first weeks much easier: it's smooth, quick to make, and mixes well with mashed fruit or vegetables. When you choose one, look for whole grains, no added sugar and no preservatives. Our guide on how to choose a baby cereal explains what to check on the label.
Organilac's Sunshine Oats (organic oats, apple and dates) and Wholesome Wheat & Fruits are made for babies from 6 months. Milk is already inside, so you just add 2 tablespoons to a bowl, pour 60–70 ml of boiled water that has cooled a little, stir and let it cool to a safe temperature. Try both in the Starter Pack.
Quick tips
- Let your baby touch and explore food. Mess is part of learning.
- Follow your baby's cues: turning the head away or closing the mouth means they've had enough.
- Keep a short note of new foods to spot any reaction.
