6 Easy Baby Cereal Recipes for 6+ Months

Baby cereal is one of the easiest first foods, but serving the same bowl every day gets boring – for you and your baby. These baby cereal recipes use simple ingredients from any Pakistani kitchen, with no added sugar or salt, so you can add variety as your baby grows.

Basic method for all recipes: add 2 tablespoons of Organilac cereal to a clean bowl, pour in 60–70 ml of boiled water and mix well. Let it cool to lukewarm, then stir in the extra ingredient. Use a little less water as your baby gets used to thicker textures.

1. Banana oats cereal (6+ months)

Mash 1–2 tablespoons of very ripe banana until smooth and stir it into prepared Sunshine Oats. Banana adds natural sweetness and makes the texture creamy – a favourite with most babies.

2. Apple and wheat cereal (6+ months)

Peel and chop an apple, steam it for 8–10 minutes until very soft, then mash or blend. Mix 1–2 tablespoons into Wholesome Wheat & Fruits. Steamed pear works just as well.

3. Mango cereal (6+ months, in season)

During mango season, stir 1 tablespoon of smooth, ripe mango pulp (fresh, not from a sweetened carton) into oats or wheat cereal. Start with a small amount, as with any new fruit.

4. Pumpkin cereal (6+ months)

Steam or boil a small piece of pumpkin (kaddu) or sweet potato until soft, mash it and mix it into the cereal. A great way to add vegetables to breakfast.

5. Multigrain cereal with yoghurt (8+ months)

Prepare Happy Harvest Multigrain a little thicker than usual and swirl in 1 tablespoon of plain, full-fat yoghurt (dahi) with no sugar. A creamy, filling breakfast for older babies.

6. Chikoo or pear multigrain bowl (8+ months)

Mash soft, ripe chikoo or pear with a fork, leaving small soft lumps, and stir it into thicker multigrain cereal. Soft lumps help your baby learn to chew.

Tips for safe and tasty baby cereal

  • Always use boiled water and clean utensils.
  • Test the temperature on your wrist before feeding.
  • Do not add sugar, honey, salt or ghee-fried mixtures.
  • Make a fresh bowl each time and throw away leftovers your baby has eaten from.
  • Never put cereal in a feeding bottle – always serve it with a spoon.
  • Introduce each new fruit or vegetable on its own first, before mixing.

Which Organilac cereal should I choose?

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix baby cereal with formula or breast milk instead of water?
Organilac cereals already contain skimmed milk, so the pack recommends mixing with boiled water.

How long does an opened pack last?
After opening, store the cereal in an airtight jar and use it within 2 weeks.

Is it safe to add dates or dry fruit?
Our cereals already contain dates. Avoid adding whole nuts or hard dry fruit before 12 months because of the choking risk.

Organilac cereals contain milk and gluten; Happy Harvest Multigrain also contains almonds. This guide is general information and not medical advice – speak to your paediatrician if your baby has allergies or feeding concerns.
